Mission
From the day it was founded in 1978 CE Delft has had a clear mission: to contribute, through independent research and consultancy, to the structural socio-economic changes required to build a sustainable future. In pursuing that mission we do not suffer from 'environmental myopia', but engage equally with social issues like equity and freedom - and with interests that may be affected by environmental policies, but without letting our judgment be clouded by them.
Although all our research is commissioned by outside clients - from environmental NGOs to large industrial companies, as detailed below - we make a point of maintaining the strictest independence in all our activities.
It is our conviction that structural socio-economic changes are required if environmental policy is to successfully achieve its stated objectives. And if there's one thing we've learned over the last 30 years, it's that government appeals and well-intended information campaigns are not in themselves enough to effect behavioural change, either private or corporate.
In articulating our mission we frequently seek publicity - and the publicity machine seeks us. To contribute to the public debate we take every opportunity to share our ideas with a broader forum.
