Current biofuels as bad as fossil fuels
29/06/2010 - Without effective EU legislation, the cuts in direct greenhouse gas emissions being pursued through use of biofuels will be entirely offset by the emissions due to the indirect land use change (ILUC) associated with their production. As things stand at the moment, biofuels lead to roughly the same GHG emissions as fossil fuels. That is the conclusion to emerge from a review by independent environmental research institute CE Delft of seven global agro-economic models used for estimating ILUC-related CO2 emissions.
