At the request of the Rathenau Institute, CE reviewed the current status of various aspects of the nuclear power issue, examining the latest developments in the fields of reactor safety, waste, terrorism, proliferation, costs, climate change, public opinion and decision-making. The report concludes that over the last twenty years there have been particularly substantial changes in decision-making on nuclear power. Public opinion, on the other hand, is still as divided as ever. There would therefore seem little point in organising another 'Broad Public Debate' on the issue like that of the 1980s, although more modest debates on individual sub-issues with specific target groups (the young, for example) may be worthwhile. This report can be ordered or downloaded from the Rathenau Institute (www.rathenau.nl).
