The theme Built environment, national policy is concerned with research and consultancy on national policy instruments geared to making the built environment more sustainable.

Topics and issues include:

  • Financial policy instruments for the built environment
    What structural instruments can incentivize the transition from natural gas to climate-neutral heating systems? How can taxes contribute to greening gas and heat in the built environment?
  • Voluntary agreements and compulsory measures
    How effective are agreements on energy labels?
  • Institutional change
    How will the gas grid be managed and funded as the number of connections plunges? How can hydrogen grids be managed and regulated? What role will the various parties play in managing heat grids?

Clients

Clients include government departments and agencies (e.g. Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations), grid operators, energy companies and environmental NGOs.
