Greenhouse gas emissions in the Netherlands

The Dutch national daily Trouw commissioned CE Delft to establish which companies and sectors contribute most to the Netherlands’ annual greenhouse gas emissions. First the main sectors together emitting over 90% of the national total were investigated, then their subsectors, to arrive at a list of the Top 15 contributing most to the Dutch total. The companies and (sub)sectors cited in the report were all sent a survey so they could provide their own data on progress on reducing their footprint.

This document reports the emissions as well as the sustainability plans of the companies and sectors, many of which are key players in the Dutch economy.

The study also provides a bridge to the consumer, as carbon emissions can be viewed from two perspectives: the point source where the emissions occur, and the consumer whose behaviour drives them. Both perspectives are considered in the study.
